Located in Long Beach, California, the Fluence/AES Los Alamitos 100MW BESS Facility is one of the world’s largest BESS facilities in operation today. A Battery Energy Storage System, or BESS, is an arrangement of batteries that collect and store energy generated by a power plant, which is later released to the power grid when existing capacities are exceeded.

The AES Alamitos BESS II provides 82MW of clean, reliable energy during peak demand. As general contractor, PNG Builders completed new construction of 81 battery containers, 27 inverters and transformers, extensive underground electrical infrastructure, and 162 AC units. The project also included site grading, drainage, a new fire access road, and landscape design.

AES Lancaster Area 127MW BESS

Built for Peak Performance. Designed for a Cleaner Grid.

Location: Lancaster, CA
Completion Year: 2022

This 127MW / 4-hour battery energy storage system supports California’s clean energy grid by storing solar power for peak demand. PNG Builders provided site grading, concrete pads, electrical infrastructure, a fire access lane, and fencing. Now serving utilities like Clean Power Alliance and PG&E, the system stores enough energy to power thousands of homes for up to four hours.
