Safety Manager

The Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the workplace meets all safety expectations and actively supports Occupational Health and Safety. This role will lead all safety compliance initiatives by managing the functions, activities and efforts to reduce workplace injuries and accidents. The Safety Manager will comply with all health and safety laws and will be responsible for establishing policies that create and maintain a safe workplace.

Job Description:

  • In conjunction with the senior management team, develop and implement a safety strategy to ensure the company maintains compliance with all health and safety laws.
  • Identifies hazards; devises and implement strategic plan to remedy any problems.
  • Develop and implement safety practices; prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety such as written programs, JHA’s and SOP’s.
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting job sites, employees and operations.
  • Conduct safety meetings with employees on a daily – weekly basis; train employees on safe work practices.
  • Work closely with the Director of Safety, project management teams and field employees to develop and implement solutions to safety related issues on project sites.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions; make corrections and improvements as needed.
  • Collaborate with management team to identify and enforce appropriate disciplinary action with employees and subcontractor who fail to comply with safety standards.
  • Responds to accidents or incidents; analyze and investigate; develop and coordinate reporting efforts.
  • Maintain safety related paperwork and documentation; manage OSHA 300 log, etc.
  • Clearly communicate hazard control information.
  • Perform RCA for all incidents (injury, first aid, near miss and property damages)
  • Ensure compliance will all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of commercial construction safety management experience.
  • Degree in Construction, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or equivalent experience.
  • CHST Certification preferred.
  • OSHA 500 Certification highly desired.
  • OSHA 30 Certification and CPR/First aid Certification.
  • Knowledge of construction and general industry safety, current Federal and OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledge of EPA standards with regards to construction industry.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrates above average organizational skills to effectively handle multiple priorities with short deadlines and respond to crisis calmly and effectively.
  • Some travel required (25 to 30 percent)
